There can be no denying the huge impact that sport has on people from all walks of life. From football to tennis, sport has been a unifying force the world over. Because of this, every few months, we have a new major sporting event or tournament to look forward to.

If you’re having trouble keeping track of these, don’t worry. We’ve put together this list of the most popular upcoming sporting events.

Wimbledon

This is perhaps the biggest tennis tournament of the year. Scheduled annually in the British summer, Wimbledon dates back to the year 1877. It was then that the first tournament was played on the grounds of the All England Club, located just outside of London. To this day, the tournament is still played on grass courts, which is one of its longest-standing traditions.

The event is attended by celebrities including various members of the Royal Family and traditionally, fresh strawberries and cream are served up to snack on. Wimbledon takes place every July, so you have until then to get the latest tennis betting odds for this Grand Slam event.

Six Nations

The Six Nations tournament is arguably one of the biggest annual rugby events in the world. As the name suggests, this competition takes place between six countries, namely England, Ireland, Italy, Wales, Scotland, and France.

While this event features all-male teams, there is another one titled the Women’s Home Nations, which sees females from four of the six countries competing: Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England.

UEFA Champions League

If you’re a soccer player or fan, you’ll no doubt have heard of the UEFA Champions League. This tournament sees Europe’s top soccer clubs battle it out for the cup. It’s one of the most watched annual sporting events in the world, as it’s not just popular in its home territory of Europe, but around the world too, and has been for over six decades. In 2023, the competition will be hosted in Istanbul, Turkey, and will begin in early June.

FINA World Aquatics Championships

The FINA World Aquatics Championships is the premier aquatic sporting event of the year. Covering swimming, diving, high diving, artistic swimming, water polo and open water swimming, this tournament is hosted by World Aquatics. All events are held in a long course swimming pool measuring 50 metres in length.

Dating back to 1973, the first-ever FINA competition was held in Yugoslavia’s Belgrade. Previously, the tournament was held every four years, then every two years. Now, however, for the first time, the event will be held for four consecutive years.

World Athletics Championships

Up until 2019, this tournament was known as the World Championships in Athletics. Organized by World Athletics, the championship represents the highest level of outdoor athletics globally and includes marathon running and race walking.

This competition dates back to 1976 and was first held in response to the International Olympic Committee dropping the Men’s 50 kilometer walk from the program. However, it wasn’t until 1983 when the full official event was first held.
